French electrical regulations - Part 1 minimum equipment

NF C 15-100 is the electrical regulations that apply throughout France. The latest edition from November 2017 is amendment 5. We will be providing you with a good overview of what is required on every installation in small bitesize parts.


If you are looking to take on an electrical rewire or installation of a French Property then these are the vital regulations to follow that will make sure your electrics are safe and legal.


The NF C 15-100 minimal equipment overview applies to:

  • New buildings

  • Total renovations

  • Modifications, extensions

The table shows what is required for each room on each of these



Lighting Points

  • 8 points max per circuit

  • 300 VA of spots count as 1 light point

  • 2 circuits minimum per house

Power outlets

  • 8 outlets if conductors 1,5mm

  • 12 outlets if conductors 2,5mm

  • 6 outlets if conductors 2,5mm for kitchen

  • Height 0.05m to 1.30m

Comms. outlets

  • Telephone, data and television

Living Rooms

1 ceiling or wall point or

1 switched power outlet

Light switch height 0.90 to 1.30m

5 outlets with 1 for every 4m2

1 next to light switch

2 close to a power outlet

Bathroom
